On Show: Spence & Lyda has a real passion for the import, distribute, manufacture and retail design products of excellence. Established in 1997, Spence & Lyda has quickly become a standard in the industry for its use of colour and pattern and it’s dynamic product range and showroom. They believe in design that adds meaning to the living experience, with clients that derive real pleasure from the visual forms, functionality and uncompromising quality of the pieces they present.
Product ranges span all the areas of life, including specialised lighting, loose furniture and textiles, through to area rugs, soft furnishings, bedding and home wares. They also specialise in the manufacture of custom made furniture and living pieces; pieces designed to suit individual and commercial requirements with an emphasis on solid wood.
Product Launches:
• The Missoni Home 2009 Collection – including fabrics, rugs, furniture and the new bedding and living collections. The featured motif for 2009 are the sculptural forms of cacti’, their silhouettes and rare flowers: echinopsis, aeonium, euphorbia and aloe. Stencil effects, tempera paintings and Indian-ink drawings reproduce elements of the plant world, details interweave and mould into the dynamic geometry of stripes and checks; the essence of the Missoni aesthetic. Come and visit the cactus garden.
• The Prince Charles Chair – Modernica and Designer Artist Peter Shire (probably best known for his former associations with The Memphis Group on the 1980s) have collaborated to produce a new take on mainstream mid century design. The Prince Charles Chair is a special edition chair named for Charles Eames, one of Shire’s design heroes and designer of the original chair. The solution is a whimsical yet appropriate movement forward for this iconic Eames fibreglass shell chair.
• New Bubble light shapes and patterns – the iconic George Nelson bubble lamp range has been expanded with the Criss Cross element being reflected in the Ball, Cigar, Pear and Saucer shapes now. There is also the new Lampshade shape designed for use with standard and table light shades.
Highlights: Spence & Lyda’s favourite artist Lisa Hoelz will be creating a cactus garden in and all over the showroom windows, live on Friday and Saturday. Spence and Lyda, Qantas and Missoni Hotels have partnered to offer a business class return flight on the new Marc Newson-designed 380 airbus to Edinburgh, Scotland, to stay for two nights at the inaugural Missoni Hotel. A business card draw last thing Saturday afternoon will reveal the lucky recipient. There is more to this PRIZE the details of which will be cemented over the next couple of weeks.
